When you apply for a language school, you need to check if the school is accredited by the British Council or another official organisation. If not, then you need to ask if it is in the Register of Education and Training Providers. If the school is not listed in the Register, your application for a visa or for permission to enter/remain in the UK as a student will be refused. Note that a school on the register does not indicate its quality but simply tells you that such a school exists.

The majority of credible language schools are authorized by the following language school associations. You may visit their websites to find out more information.

British Council English UK EAQUALS IALC

Language schools normally offer English courses for different purposes, which typically include: General English (e.g. British culture, conversation classes etc.), Business English (e.g. English used for banking, business, marketing, management etc.) and English for particular exams (IELTS, TOEFL, TOEIC etc.).
