Train
Trvelling by train in the UK is very convenient. It may take half of the time travelling by coach for the same journey. Train tickets are quite expensive but you can greatly reduce the cost if you take advantage of railcards. Most common type of railcard used by our students is 16-25 Railcard (also known as a Young Persons Railcard), with which you can normally cut your fare by 30%.
You can either buy ticket at the train station, or book the ticket in advance on line if you want to save money or avoid the queue. www.thetrainline.co.uk is a good company we recommend to our students.
The main train stations in central London are: King's Cross St Pancras, Liverpool Street, Fenchurch street, London Bridge, Charing Cross, Waterloo, Victoria, Paddington, Euston, and Marylebone.
Coach/Bus
National Express operates the largest coach network in the UK. They also offer discount Coachcard for full time students or young people aged 16 to 26. Please visit its website for more information. Its on line booking system is very straightforward and easy to use.
Megabus offers a basic service to passengers at a very low price. A limited number of tickets on each bus are available at ¡Ì1. The cost rises as more people book seats and as the date of travel gets closer. Please note that there are no toilets or luggage storage areas on Megabus services. Visit its website for more details.

London underground
London underground is the world's oldest underground railway with over a century of history. It has 268 stations and 12 major lines: Bakerloo, Central, Circle, District, Hammer Smith and City, Jubilee, Metropolitan, Northern, Piccadilly, Victoria, Waterloo & City, and DLR. There have been a lot of maintenance and renovation works going on in recent years on almost all underground lines, so the tube can be quite unreliable at times. We recommend you check TFL's (Transport for London) website for service updates before your journey.
The underground map is divided into 6 main zones. You can find online maps of tube stations here:
Air
We recommend the following airlines to our students.
Budget airlines: only fly short-haul from the UK airports to nearby airports in the UK or Europe using smaller aeroplanes.
Long distance flights:
You can find detailed information about a list of budget airline routes from this website: www.flycheapo.com
