Tier 2 (General Skilled Worker) is for skilled workers with a job offer to come in to fill gaps in the UK labour force. It is replacing the previous work permit route. From 19 July 2010, the government is introducing a limit on applications under Tier 2 (General) of the points-based system.
Points assessment
You will need to score a pass mark of 70 points from three sets of criteria. These are:
- Attributes
- English language skills
- Maintenance
Attributes
You must score 50 points in total for your attributes. The points you can score for attributes are listed in the table below. You can only score points for one entry in each column.

• Shortage occupation; or
• Job offer with a salary of £150,000 or more; or
• Completion of a resident labour market test by the sponsor; or
• Post-Study Work; or
