Tier 2 (General Skilled Worker) is for skilled workers with a job offer to come in to fill gaps in the UK labour force. It goes live in November 2008, replacing the previous work permit route.
To be eligible to apply for a Tier 2 (General Skilled Worker) visa, you need to have:
A job offer
Certificate of sponsorship from a licensed sponsors
Scored enough points to apply
Points assessment
You will need to score a pass mark of 70 points from three sets of criteria. These are:
Attributes
English language skills
Maintainance
Attributes
You must score at least 50 points in this category. You can score points under three criteria.
Sponsorship;
You need to obtain a sponsorship certificate from your potential employer.
If you have a certificate of sponsorship for a job on a shortage occupation list you will be awarded 50 points, otherwise your job will have passed the resident labour market test and you will be awarded 30 points.
